In the end, Doug didn't sign with the Mets. Instead after graduation, he went to Spain to play professional basketball. Later he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers and signed with them. Unfortunately, an injury at the end of the basketball season ended his professional athletic career, but he then put his Electrical Engineering degree to good use in a long and productive career with General Electric.
